Bus fare surcharge to stay
By : Kristina George
PUTRAJAYA: The 30 per cent surcharge for express buses will not be removed despite the recent reduction in fuel prices, Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Noh Omar said yesterday.
"The express and shuttle bus fares were never affected by the rising costs of fuel because the government had provided subsidies for these bus companies," Noh pointed out, adding that an extensive study showed that the bus companies' losses were caused by rising operational costs.
GEORGE TOWN: Rapid Penang's plan for additional buses for its service in Seberang Perai early next year has hit a snag.
The Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (CVLB) has rejected an application by the company to transfer 30 buses from RapidKL for use in the mainland.
CVLB chairman Datuk Markiman Kobiran said the board had to reject the application because Seberang Perai currently had adequate bus services provided by Rapid Penang and other bus companies.
Govt will not end contract with Puspakom
By LOH FOON FONG
KUALA LUMPUR: The Government does not plan to end its contract with Puspakom despite the arrest of several of its officers.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin said the Government could not end the contract because the company had 1,000 workers while only 40 staff members were arrested.
Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR - Lembah Pantai) had asked him in Parliament on Thursday if the Government planned to end contract with Puspakom because many of its officers were arrested and were involved in corruption.
Earlier, she had also asked Lajim the criteria used in extending Puspakom's contract for 15 years despite its disappointing performance.
KUALA LUMPUR(Star): KTM Komuter services are expected to run on 10- minute frequency during peak hours by the end of this year with the delivery of 28 overhauled trains.
KTMB managing director Abd Radzak Abd Malek said he was trying to devise a system where six extra trains which did not run the complete route could be operated between 6am and 9am as well as 5pm and 8pm.
Speaking to reporters during KTMB's Hari Raya open house, Radzak said the six trains would run between Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam on the Sentul-Port Klang route, and between Kajang and Sungai Buloh on the Seremban-Kuala Kubu Baru route.
