Commemoration of Ops Lallang wehre 106 citizens were arrested without trial.
GMI organised a commemoration for Operasi Lallang-which took place in 1987 under Mahathir's regime. 106 opposition, NGOs and civil society figures were arrested without any reason given. The exhibition at Prangin Mall, outside Start Buck started from 12.00noon and folded at 8.00pm, ahead of the scheduled end at 10.00pm, due to Gerakan's last minute's pull out from a public debate against state ruling party DAP.
Detained after she gave statement -for what?
The police who arrested Cheng after she finished giving statement has failed to extend her detentionfrom the Magistrate-thus Cheng is expected to be released sometime today. This detention is under a different section of ISA where the detainee need to be charged. It is good that there is a magistrate who can refuse to extend detention as always applied by police for no good reason other than to punish the detainees.

The arrest of Malaysia Today editor Raja Petra Kamaruddin, Sin Chew Daily News reporter Tan Hoon Cheng, and DAP's Teresa Kok under Section 73(1) of the Malaysia's Internal Security Act is nothing but a despicable, haphazard, and cowardly measure on the part of the BN to intimidate the opposition and silence dissent.
It is a last-miniute, terribly ill-conceived, fumbling, desperate measure by Malaysia's ruling party to hang on to power which is fast slipping away from their weakening grip.
