Do your own property inspection, buyers urged
HOUSE buyers can save much time and money by first inspecting the property, said architect Anthony Lee, a trainer at Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM).
“Whether it is a new house or not, it is important to inspect the property for defects,” he said.
Lee added that minor defects might lead to major problems requiring corrective renovation in the future.
“You only need to have a ladder, a long shank screwdriver and a power point tester to do your own property inspection if you do not want to hire an architect,” Lee explained.
CoB appointments on councils should be full-time (Sun)
PETALING JAYA mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman recently urged that local council presidents and mayors be relieved of the Commissioner of Buildings (CoB) appointment. This was supported by Subang Jaya Municipal Council president Datuk Adnan Md Ikshan and Kajang Municipal Council president Datuk Hasan Nawawi Abd Rahman (The Star Aug. 5, 2008).
This public appeal was not only rare, but also out of character of local council presidents or mayors. Indeed, some might see this as inappropriate since the appointment of local council chiefs to be CoB was the brain-child of the federal government and implemented by the state governments.
When house buyers are late in making payment the penalty kicks in automatically. But developers want to make it out as though if they are late to deliver the houses they need to be `notified' or in reality-brought to court, before they will consider making any penalty payment. Yet the S&P contracts say precisely that in both cases the penalty kicks in automatically. Now a judge also say/judge so. Hurrays to house buyers!

Tussle over right to manage high-rise units
By : Jennifer Gomez
KUALA LUMPUR: It's open "war" over who has the right to manage stratified or highrise properties.
Just one day after the VAEA Joint Action Group placed a public notice in the New Straits Times claiming that right, the Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents called a press conference to rebut the claim.
Selling bomba space as car parks -another Regency Ht's special `offer'! Hi Ms. Yeoh,
We would like to complaint Developer from IOI Group Palmex.
After government approved CF, 6 months later our Regency Heights Condominium's developer remove or converted out BOMBA area to parking lots, it is the correct way? Why they never think about our safety issue? How can they do that? They just converted it after all government procedures approved by related department. Can government do something? Or should we write a letter to Bomba department?

Stairways to exhaustion
IMAGINE climbing up stairs to reach your home on the 16th floor. Well, that’s exactly what Chew Keok Ghee, 58, has been do-ing for the past six weeks.
The resident of Block 25 of Taman Sri Damai flats in Batu Lancang, Penang, is frustrated with the breakdown of the two lifts.
“I’m too exhausted to climb up after coming down from my unit in the morning.
“I usually hang around the flats compound until I have finished lunch before walking up again,” he said.
Former security guard Mohd Yunus Talib, 62, who lives on the eighth floor, is among those severely affec-ted.
