'Strike against the hike' kicks off Sunday in Penang

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 – The loose coalition known as Pakatan Rakyat will kick off their nationwide protest against the "insane" fuel price hike on Sunday at the City Stadium in Penang.
"The roadshow is organised by Pakatan Rakyat. It will start in Penang and will move from state to state," said Dr Syed Azman Syed Ahmad Nawawi, the PAS MP for Kuala Terengganu at a press conference held at the PAS office in downtown Jalan Raja Laut after a successful street protest organised by the Pakatan youth leaders today.
All of Pakatan's bigshots are expected to attend the night-time affair, including PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The roadshow is part of Pakatan's efforts to gather one million signatures in support of the big march in Kuala Lumpur on July 5.
However, they did not say what would happen if they failed to obtain the one million signatures.
"We're confident that we will have over one million signatures before July 5," said Salahuddin Ayubn, PAS Youth chief, who was also at the press conference with PAS Titiwangsa MP Dr Lo' Lo' Ghazali.
It is the media's responsibility to spread the information, said Dr Lo' Lo'.
"We call on all Malaysians to gather on the 5th of July to express their dissatisfaction over the price hike," said Syed Azman.
Initially, today's street demonstration was to have seen Pakatan protestors walking 3 km from the Kampung Baru mosque after performing the Friday prayers to KLCC, headquarters of national oil company Petronas.
The destination was called off after PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar received news of "heavy police presence" at the iconic building.
Instead, the protestors switched to Plan B and journeyed to Sogo, a major shopping mall on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, where they surprised police personnel and pedestrians alike with a sit-down protest.
Today's street demonstration is only the beginning. The protest walk to KLCC, however, is far from over. The organisers have already planned for it to be held on July 5, regardless of heavy police presence or not.
