Teh Chun Hong of Suaram was handcuffed most of the time -till the last minute he was released
Teh Chun Hong was arrested after he and Lau Shu Shi, both from Suaram, made a report against the police at the Patani Rd Police station. The Police were unwelcoming of the complaint and had at 1 point said they wanted to throw them out. After the report was made and when they were to leave the police station 1 police confronted them and arrested and handcuffed both of them in the ensuing verbal sparring. They were handcuffed most of the time during the detention except when they were kept in separate Lock-up at night-Teh in Patani Rd lock-up and Lau in Farlim's police station lock-up. Bruises were visible on both of teh's hands. Lau related that they were still handcuffed when they were given some inedible food.
Both of them were supposed to be charged this morning at the Magistrate Court beside Dewan Sri Pinang. After NGOs waited till 11.00am someone called the IO Sargent Yusoh Bin Harun and confirmed that they will instead be released on police bail at Patani Rd. Actually only Lau was brought to court. So all supporters went to Patani Rd where we could meet with Lau and Teh, where Teh was still handcuffed till about 1.00pm where they were released on police bail.
Stanley was requested to give additional statement to the Sargent in relation to the charge faced by Lau and Teh ie Section 90 of Police Act -`disorderly conduct'.
They are required to return to Patani Rd police station to find out if they will be charged, after further investigations are carried out. Despite that both and all detainees were in high spirit and called a PC to denounced the police' rudeness after the release. More activities to fight ISA are also planned...
