Do you support building the RM10mil car park at Victoria St?

The Poll is not clear without referring to Proposed Victoria St Over-priced Car Park-not a neccesity ! with highlights of

1. RM1 million for 160 car parks (parking bays), EACH will be at RM 62,500 for (6'x10'?), roughly RM1000/ft2!

2. The multi-storey car park at Union Street is rarely full

3. under Attention Mr. chairman of MPPP....

a) For one car park at RM 120 per month = RM19K per year, It will take 43 years to break even even if maintenance is ZERO.

b) RM100/sq ft is a good profitable price for the construction.

4. Under Dr Teng..think it over.... it could be a bus terminal, etc..

If the Poll started as

"Should a car park unit (say 6'x10‘)cost more than a Low Cost Housing Unit (say 20'x25')?", or,

"Should a car park be at a cost of more than RM1000/sq ft?"

will anyone poll "YES"?

up to you to write in to give arguments

The poll cannot lead you to vote in any particular way. If we do then there is no value to the poll. But as readers you are free to write your comments/arguments for your vote to canvass for support one way or other. We are not linking it to any articles -because it may jeopardise the fairness/neutrality of the poll. Hope you appreciate the pollster's position.

1. I noticed the Poll when I was reading some other postings. Therefore, the posting regarding the "RM10million Car Park" was not on the same page of the Poll! Therefore, the suggestion was to link the Poll to the Posting. The RM10million is not the key point for Polling but rather RM64,000 per parking space (X sq ft), isn't it, or, RMxxx/sq ft?

2. Basically, I believe if "parking space" is used for the 160 instead of 160 "car parks", it will make a better distinction between the multi-storey Car Park and the parking Space.

3. I believe putting the key points for Polling should not constitute an intention of leading the Polling into particular direction but a Polling of particular questions, such as

-how many people will agree to build a car park with an average cost of RM64,000 per parking space? (while the construction cost of such kind of building should not be more than RM100/sq ft) or to compare with Low Cost Housing where people may be more familiar with?

The rest of information from the comments are for the illustration of why such proposal was unreasonable.

Don't you want the reader to poll with more facts or information?

PROVIDE MORE "FACTS" FOR THE POLL SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED and should not constitute any wrong intention unless such information are not correct or misleading!

Even with all the facts that would lead to the conclusion that the Proposal was unreasonable, some could vote "YES" for possible reason that NO ONE can stop the Government in going ahead with any proposal even it could be much unreasonable and an additional car park could mean "better than nothing"!

Mr Ong,

1. I hope to suggest for the SECOND time that any comment should following the original subject. Or, it will be confusing. The Comment can be started with a Subtitle if needed.

2. For NEW subject, they should be started separately, so that more subjects can be started and be grouped accordingly.

My replies to the 2 post

My replies to the 2 post above :

1. You don't need to stick to the same title for the comments/posts to be grouped together-just post under `reply' to be grouped together, and `add new comments' to be grouped separately;

2. While I respect your stand to object to the cost of the car park there are more than a cost factor in the grounds of objections to the car park at Victoria st; Simply put -even without the high cost there are people who have good reasons to object to the car park. So the reasons for the objections can be accommodated in the comments section -not to be added to the poll question. The `Rm10mil' overall cost was only an identifier-may not cause/lead anyone to vote either way. And this is not taking info out on the poll question -the info are all in these comments section as well as in the news posted in this web site. You can do a simple search to list all posts on the victoria st car park.

Hope that help.

No to car park..

I dont think car park is a big issue in Penang.

It is easy to find a parking space in Penang. In Georgetown like Chulia Street and Penang Road, even it is often congested, finding a parking slot is not a real issue.

10 million is a lot.  Beautify the Padang Kota Lama if you ask me. This area has a lot of potentials. Not necessarily a car park. At night a lot of Mat Rempits hanging there like a crow. Add lighting affect and improve the tiles like Langkawi Dataran Helang in Kuah.
