The protest organiser suggest to wear yellow on a weekly basis to keep the `fire' alive! If you can't make it to go to KL last saturday at least you can come to a screening this sunday!

Talk on the country’s judiciary system

THE Socio-Economic and Environmental Research Institute (SERI) is presenting a talk on the country’s judiciary system at the Penang Lecture 2007.

State Education and Economic Planning Committee chairman Datuk Dr Toh Kin Woon said retired lawyer and "The Penang File" editor Lim Kean Chye would deliver his lecture entitled 1988 and After: The Dismantling of Justice.

Lim, 88, an early anti-colonialist before the country’s independence, will talk about the 1988 judicial crisis following the sacking of Lord President Tun Salleh Abas and several Supreme Court judges, and its impact on the development of the judicial system.

Dr Toh said the judiciary was recognised for its importance in keeping the executive and administrative powers in check in a democracy.

“Lim’s lecture may give us a good look at how the present judicial system is affected by the 1988 crisis,” he said.

The lecture will be held at E & O Hotel at 2pm on Dec 8.

Admission is free but as seats are limited to 300. Those interested in attending the lecture are advised to call Rohana on 04-2283306 or e-mail rohana @seri.com.my for registration.

Registration closes on Dec 5.

Come and join us for a peaceful candlelight vigil to show our support
for those arrested because of the BERSIH, Hindraf and human rights
rallies for exercising their basic human right to assemble.

This candlelight vigil neither supports nor opposes the views of those
rallies, but supports the right to the freedom of peaceful assembly as
promised by Article 20 of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

It's going to be peaceful, fun and there will be live music and maybe a poetry recital!

Candles will be provided but if you have your own, please bring them along,
especially if you have those colourful, gigantic ones!

If you really can't join us, you can still show your support by switching off
the lights in your home and lighting candles outside between 9-10pm.
